Due to IMO setting new limits on the sulphur content in marine fuels and targets to reduce the CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) released the Strategy to help shipowners with the difficult task of decarbonizing their fleets.
The Bureau's 1st step is 'Developing carbon footprint and carbon intensity profile'. The 2nd step is 'Considering your options', and lastly, the 3rd step is 'Implementing your strategy'.
The document points out that:
The technology solutions that support the decarbonization of international shipping will continue to advance over time; so should your safety strategy and your business’ ability to adopt any changes with the least possible disruption.
