ClassNK amends Rules for Marine Pollution Prevention Systems

Classification Society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) amended its Rules/Guidance for Marine Pollution Prevention Systems.

The amendment of this document is published on October 31st, 2022.

Amendments of rules

Amendments of Rules for Marine Pollution Prevention Systems refer to the following paragraphs:

• Inspections of Construction and Equipment (both in Chapters 2 and 3)

• In-use fuel oil sampling points

The effective date of these amendments is January 1st, 2023.

Amendments of guidance

Amendments of Guidance for Marine Pollution Prevention Systems refer to the following sections:

• Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)

• Collection, Reporting and Retained related to Fuel Oil Consumption Reporting, etc.

• Operational Carbon Intensity

The effective date of the amendments is November 1st, 2022.

Also, in Part 2 ("Surveys") of Guidance for Marine Pollution Prevention Systems, paragraph "Submission of Plans and Documents for Approval" is amended, as well as paragraph "Attained Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index".

These amendments will enter into force on January 1st, 2023.

Notwithstanding the amendments to the Guidance, the current requirements apply to ships delivered before the effective date except for in cases where the amendments are to be retroactively applied.

In Part 8 ("Equipment for the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships"), section "Sulphur Oxides and Particulate Matter", Paragraph 2.2.2 "In-use fuel oil sampling points" has also been amended.

The effective date of the amendments is January 1st, 2023.
