DNV updates 'Composite drive shafts and flexible couplings' class programme

Classification society DNV revised the Composite drive shafts and flexible couplings Class programme, introducing minor changes to sections 2, 6, 7 and 8.

Guidance note in Section 2 was changed and extended to give better guidance to functional requirements for fire safety and water integrity. Changes to Section 6 include changed parameter symbol in formula from 'l' to 'L' to avoid confusion with number '1'. Moreover, a footnote for matrix cracking safety factor was added to Table 1.

A new paragraph was added to Section 7 which states that a fire test and subsequential torque test may be included in type approval, while the new paragraph 1 to Section 8 clarified that proof testing may be reduced in case shaft is manufactured in series.
