Establishment of a humanitarian corridor at Mariupol

The Government of the Russian Federation has sent a communication to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding establishment of a blue safe maritime corridor to allow safe evacuation of seafarers and ships in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Considering the danger posed by the naval mines, the Russian side had finished minesweeping operations in the port of Mariupol and hazard of sea mines has been eliminated in the area. This has created a basis for safe merchant vessels departure from the aforementioned port and for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor.

The corridor represents a 115-mile long and 2 mile wide safe marine traffic lane and starts its operation from 25 May 2022. Due to shore navigational equipment being damaged the exit from the port of Mariupol and navigation up to the assembly area is planned to be conducted during daytime. Tug assistance will be provided.
