EU RO MR Group recently published four technical requirements regarding valves.
All these technical requirements were published on 1 February 2023 and will enter into force on 1 July 2023.
Valves for Bilge Systems
The valves referred to are specifically designed for controlling or altering the flow of bilge water in Class III piping systems, as defined by IACS UR P2.2 Rev.4.
These Technical Requirements pertain to valves that are exclusively dedicated to bilge systems of Class III, with design pressures that do not exceed 1.6 MPa, design temperatures that do not exceed 200 °C, and a maximum diameter of 100 mm. These technical requirements do not apply to the following:
- Valves intended for installation on the ship's side or the ship's collision bulkhead.
- Valves that are controlled by hydraulic, electric, or pneumatic mechanisms.
- Plastic valves.
Valves for Freshwater Systems
These technical requirements pertain to valves used in Class III freshwater systems, as defined by IACS UR P2.2 Rev.4, with the purpose of halting or altering the flow of freshwater.
These requirements are specific to valves designed for freshwater systems in Class III, with a maximum design pressure of 1.6MPa, a maximum design temperature of 200℃, and a maximum diameter of 100mm.
The following types of valves are not covered by these technical requirements: valves intended for installation on the ship's side or collision bulkhead, hydraulically, electrically, or pneumatically controlled valve devices, and plastic valves.
Valves for Fuel Oil Systems
The subject of these Technical Requirements are valves meant to stop or alter the flow of fuel oil in Class III piping systems as defined by IACS UR P2.2 Rev.4.
These requirements are applicable only to valves designed for fuel oil systems of Class III with a maximum design pressure of 0.7 MPa, a maximum design temperature of 60℃, and a maximum diameter of 100mm.
However, these requirements do not apply to plastic valves or devices that are controlled hydraulically, electrically, or pneumatically.
Valves for Sanitary Systems
These Technical Requirements refer to valves used in Class III piping systems for sanitation purposes, as defined by IACS UR P2.2 Rev.4.
These valves are designed to modify or stop the flow of sanitary fluids. The technical specifications outlined here are applicable to valves used in Class III sanitation systems with a diameter of up to 100mm, a design pressure of up to 1.6MPa, and a design temperature of up to 200°C.
This document does not apply to valves that are meant to be fitted on the ship's side or collision bulkhead, plastic valves, or devices that control valves hydraulically, electrically, or pneumatically.
