Guideline for the approval and inspection of inflatable liferafts issued by CCS

China Classification Society (CCS) has issued the revised Guideline for the approval and inspection of inflatable liferafts.

Major revisions

  1. The addition of MSC.488 (103) to Inspection Items Table 7.2.1 (17.7) and Table 7.2.2 (20).
  2. Modification of 8.1.1 to state that, in principle, a single sample should be drawn from various types of life rafts among those that clear factory inspection.
  3. Alteration of quality requisites for attachment adhesive from ISO TR6060 Table 5.7 to ISO 15372:2000 6.2.9.2.
  4. Adjustment of quality requisites for attachment adhesive from ISO TR6060 Table 5.8 to ISO 15372:2000/Amd 1:2021 6.2.5.

Application

This Guideline applies to the approval and examination of life rafts on ships engaged in international voyages and as stipulated by the International Code of Safety for High-speed Craft, 2000.

Terms and definitions

An open reversible inflatable liferaft denotes an inflatable liferaft as defined in Annex 11 of the International Code of Safety for High-speed Craft, 2000, excluding SOLAS liferafts.

A canopied reversible inflatable liferaft is interchangeable with a self-righting inflatable liferaft compliant with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, along with its amendments and the International Life-saving Appliances Code.

This Guideline was issued on 14 July 2023 and came into force on the same date.
