Hong Kong issues Shipping Ordinance 2009 Commencement Notice

The Marine Department of Hong Kong has issued a Commencement Notice No. 27/2022 in order to remind shipowners, ship managers, ship operators, masters and classification societies of Hong Kong registered ships of implementation of the remaining non-commenced provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Ordinance 2009. The commencement notice will come into operation on 01 July 2022.

The remaining non-commenced provisions are mainly technical amendments, including the removal or replacement of outdated references with colonial connotation, and some other minor and consequential amendments.

Non-commenced provisions of Ordinance No.10 of 2009 are the sections 3(1), 3(2), 3(3), 3(4), 3(6), 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 30(8), 33, 34(1), 37, 42(3), 46(2), 47, 50, 51 and 52.
