The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published its Unified Requirements referring to the fail-close action of the emergency shutdown (ESD) valve.
This document specifies arrangements for an emergency shutdown (ESD) valve installed in the cargo piping of ships carrying liquefied gases to stop the flow of cargo in the event of an emergency, either within the ship or during the transfer of cargo to other ships or shore facilities.
This document was published on December 1st, 2022, and comes into force on January 1st, 2024.
This Unified Requirement is to be uniformly implemented by IACS Societies on ships constructed on or after January 1st, 2024.
