IACS revised requirements for hull surveys of bulk carriers and oil tankers

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), on February 1st, 2023, published three revised documents containing requirements for hull surveys of bulk carriers and oil tankers.

Unified Requirements Hull Surveys of Bulk Carriers, Hull Surveys of Double Skin Bulk Carriers, and Hull Surveys of Oil Tankers will all become effective on July 1st, 2024.

The requirements in these documents apply to inspections of the hull structure and piping system en route to the cargo location, cofferdams, pipe tunnels, void spaces, fuel oil tanks within the cargo length area, and all ballast tanks.

These requirements contain a minimum scope of testing, thickness measurement, and tank testing.
