Luxembourg issued a circular about the implementation of the Nairobi Convention

The Luxembourg Maritime Administration on 17 April 2023 issued a circular about the implementation of the Nairobi Convention.

This circular is addressed to all accredited shipping managers, ship owners, ship operators, designated persons ashore, masters of Luxembourg-flagged ships, and recognized organizations and flag state inspectors.

Following the entry into force of the 2007 Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks in Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Parliament passed legislation on 3 March 2023 to ensure the effective implementation of the Convention.

The law entered into force on 20 March 2023.

It is important to point out that both the ship's operator and the captain are responsible for completing the report prescribed by Article 5, Paragraph 2 of the Nairobi Convention. A copy of the report must be sent to the Commissioner for maritime affairs.

Also, vessels over 300 GT registered in Luxembourg must have on board a Nairobi Convention Certificate issued by the Commissioner or a recognized organization authorized to deliver the said document.
