Maritime Safety Information and the Promulgation of Notices to Mariners issued by Malta

The Ports and Yachting Directorate of Transport Malta issued the Maritime Safety Information & the Promulgation of Notices to Mariners.

The Notice to Mariners No. 02 of 2020 of Transport Malta is hereby cancelled.

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, advises the public in general, Local Councils, Government Agencies, mariners and entities along the foreshore, that the Chief Officer & Harbour Master, is to be notified as early as possible when new or suspected dangers to navigation are discovered or when any changes to aids to navigation are observed within the territorial and internal waters of Malta, within the land and sea approaches to any port or bay, within any Port and any Marina and on any berth, landing, quay, slipway or pontoon.  

The above also applies when irregularities which are related to depths of seabed, navigational aids, marine facilities, and any other circumstances that may affect the safety of navigation and shipping in general, within the territorial and navigable waters of Malta, and which may necessitate corrections or amendments to Navigational Charts or Nautical Publications.

In the case of pre-planned maritime activities, including surveys and works along the foreshore or within the territorial and internal waters and ports and the approaches thereto, the Chief Officer & Harbour Master, is to be notified by not less than fourteen (14) working days prior to the date of the commencement of the intended activity.

This is to ensure that, if required, relevant Notices to Mariners are issued and promulgated through the Government Gazette and publicly, in a timely manner and in conformity with the legal requirements.
