Panama issued a circular regarding the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code
The Panama Maritime Authority issued a merchant marine circular regarding the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
This document was issued on 1 May 2023.
The objective of issuing this Merchant Marine Circular is to provide information and guidance to Ship-owners, Operators, and Masters regarding the Administration's requirements for complying with the International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).
The Code is divided into two sections, namely Part A and Part B. Part A outlines the detailed maritime and port security-related requirements that SOLAS contracting governments, port authorities, and shipping companies must comply with. Part B of the Code offers guidance and information on implementing Part A.
In 2010, the Republic of Panama ratified the Protocol of 2005 to the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation (SUA 2005) and the Protocol of 2005 to the Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf (SUA PROT 2005).
The aforementioned ratification was approved by Law No. 78 on November 15, 2010, and promulgated in Official Gazette No. 26663-B on November 18, 2010.
