Hong Kong has issued a new Merchant Shipping Information Note regarding the recognition of non-Hong Kong certificates as equivalent to certificates of proficiency (CoP).
This note was published on January 4th, 2023.
The purpose of this note is to instruct the parties concerned that the non-Hong Kong certificates issued by, or under the authority of, the government of a state party of the STCW Convention are equivalent to certificates of proficiency.
Officers and ratings who have relevant certificates of proficiency should keep the original certificates on board while serving on Hong Kong registered ships.
