The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published the Recommended Procedure for Inclining Test.
This revised document (Rec 31 Rev3 CLN) was published on 1 April 2023.
The objective of this procedure is to attain an acceptable level of accuracy in determining both the weight of the lightship and the coordinates of its center of gravity.
This procedure is a general recommendation.
Alternative criteria that are considered to be equal to the ones specified in the following items may be considered acceptable.
The decision to accept such alternatives is at the discretion of the Society.
If the inclining test is conducted to meet a legal requirement, the approval of the Flag Administration may also be necessary for these alternatives.
If a surveyor from the Society is asked to be present during the inclining test, the surveyor must ensure that the test is carried out in accordance with accepted procedures and that all fundamental measurements and data are accurately taken and recorded.
