RINA amends Guide for Ship Condition Assessment Program (CAP)
Classification Society RINA has amended its Guide for the Ship Condition Assessment Program (CAP). The amended guide becomes effective September 1st 2022.
Since detailed ship conditions cannot usually be all assessed by the regular surveys, but a detailed assessment of ship condition is crucial for the owner’s maintenance program, the CAP offers owners a detailed assessment of a ship’s actual condition.
The Condition Assessment Program (CAP) is based on strength evaluation and fatigue strength analysis, as well as a detailed on site systematic inspection of the hull, machinery and cargo systems.
The Program allows for the vessel to be judged based on the actual condition on board rather than age, as well as to contributing to protecting life, property and the environment and to ensure safest possible transportation of cargo.
CAP is a voluntary service offered by some IACS Members and there is no complete harmonization of the CAP programs offered by IACS Members.
