RMRS revises the Guidelines on Certification of the Safety Management Systems in Compliance with ISM and ISPS Codes

The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) has published the revised Guidelines on Certification of the Safety Management Systems in Compliance with the Requirements of the ISM Code and of the Ships in Compliance with the Requirements of the ISPS Code.

This document was published on 15 May 2023 and is effective from 1 January 2023.

The Guidelines are intended for ISM Code auditors/Marine Management Systems (MMS) auditors shipping companies.

The Guidelines contain requirements to the Companies, which operate the ships, specified in Regulation 2.1 of Chapter IX and Regulation 2.1 of Chapter XI-2 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, as amended by the Protocol of 1978 and 1988, regardless of their date of construction.

The Guidelines is a normative document for the ISM Code auditors/Marine Management Systems (MMS) auditors (hereinafter referred to as "the RS auditor").

The present Guidelines are based on the latest version of the 2021 edition taking into account the amendments and additions introduced at the re-publication.

The procedural requirements (PR) and recommendations of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and the relevant resolutions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have been taken into consideration in the Guidelines.

The Guidelines determines basic requirements of Company/ships SMS certification (ISM Code audit), as well as the ship security system (ISPS Code audit), specified by IMO, IACS, and RS.
