The Suez Canal Authority announced changes to the transit system for yachts under 300 tons

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) on 16 August informed about the modification of the transit system of yachts for tonnages less than 300 tons (small floating units).

Initially, the transit fees for compact floating vessels are determined according to the regulations for navigation applicable to these vessels (Article 14, Appendix 2, page 216 - December 2022 edition).

This computation is outlined as follows:

Transit fees = (5) Special Drawing Rights (SDR) multiplied by Gross Tonnage (GT) multiplied by the daily rate of Special Drawing Rights.

In the event that the small floating unit opts for a non-stop direct transit through Ismailia yacht club, deviating from the usual practice, a fixed fee of $5000 must be remitted.

This amount remains constant regardless of the vessel's tonnage, in contrast to the standard fees mentioned in the previous section.

However, this arrangement is contingent on the vessel maintaining a minimum speed of 7 knots.

This directive will be effective starting from 15 September 2023.
