Updated classification rules for floating and mobile offshore units by TASNEEF

Emirates Classification Society (TASNEEF) has issued revised Rules for the Classification of Floating Offshore Units at Fixed Locations and Mobile Offshore Drilling Units and amendments to Part E of the Rules.

These rules and amendments became effective on 1 January 2024.

The Society's Regulations establish standards for evaluating and upholding the classification of offshore units, whether fixed or mobile. The assigned classification indicates the Society's judgment that the unit meets relevant criteria within specified conditions and timeframes. The Regulations are further organized into distinct sections:

  • Part A - Classification and Surveys
  • Part B - Hull and Stability
  • Part C - Machinery, Electrical installations, Automation and Fire Protection
  • Part D - Materials and Welding
  • Part E - Service Notations
  • Part F - Additional Class Notations (applied at the request of the Interested Party)

Amendments to the Rules include updates to specific sections in Part E of the regulations. The purpose of these amendments is to introduce IACS UR G5, which focuses on the "Fail-close action of Emergency Shut Down (ESD) valve."
