USCG revises instruction for drydock examinations, underwater surveys in lieu of drydocking, and drydock extension policy clarifications

United States Coast Guard has revised its work instruction for drydock examinations, underwater surveys in lieu of drydocking, and drydock extension policy clarifications.

The purpose of this work instruction is to provide guidance to district prevention staff, officers in charge, marine inspection, and the Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise relating to the administration of drydock exams, underwater surveys in lieu of drydocking, and drydock extensions for inspected vessels.

In this document, the process for determining the Next Exam date for all inspected vessels is revised, as well as the applicability of paragraph D.3 to include small passenger vessels is expanded. Also, the organization of documents has been improved for accuracy and readability.

When administering drydock exams and drydock extensions for all inspected vessels, districts, marine inspections, and the Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise should reference this guidance.
