Classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has recently released the updated Advisory on Autonomous Functionality.
With the rapid technological advancement which has taken place in recent decades, the autonomous and remote functionality to aid, assist or augment crew capabilities are being tested and evaluated in multiple marine and offshore sectors.
The objective of the Advisory is to shed light on the journey to autonomy, bring to attention major considerations affecting autonomous development, and to provide a framework and structured process to guide stakeholders in the application of autonomous functionality.
