American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has published their newest Guide for Building and Classing. As always, the Guide is effective as of the 1st day of the month of publishing, which is January 1st 2022.
The Guide provides criteria that can be applied to Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Carriers and LNG Barges proposed to be classed by utilizing the ABS Rules and Guides. It is meant to be used by designers, builders, owners and operators of liquefied gas carriers/tank barges as it specifies the ABS requirements for obtaining the optional classification notation (LNG) R.
The January 2022 edition replaces the requirements for surveys after construction with a reference to Section 7-9-40 of the ABS Rules for Survey After Construction (Part 7). However, users are advised to check periodically on the ABS website to verify that this version of this Guide is the most current.
