Bahamas: Voluntary early implementation of revised IMDG Code

The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) has issued a technical alert on the implementation of the revised IMDG Code.

The purpose of this Technical Alert is to provide the position of the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) on the amended International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code (Amendment 41-22), which enters into force on 01 January 2024.

This Alert applies to all ships registered in The Bahamas to which the IMDG Code is applicable.

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted amendments to the IMDG Code at its 105th session (see Resolution MSC.501(105)).

The planned entry into force date for the amended IMDG Code (Amendment 41-22) is 01 January 2024.

The Maritime Safety Committee also agreed that SOLAS contracting governments may apply the amended IMDG Code in whole or in part from 01 January 2023.

Accordingly, The Bahamas has advised its early acceptance of the amended IMDG
Code and has entered this in the IMO Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS) (click here).

As stated in MSC.501(105), there is a transition period from 01 January 2023 to 01 January 2024 when both the amended Code (Amendment 41-22) and the existing code (Version 40-20) can be used.

Bahamas: Polar Code training and certification requirements

The Bahamas Maritime Authority has issued a notice on the training and certification requirements for persons on ships subject to the Polar Code.
