Bureau Veritas (BV) has revised the July 2021 version of the Rules on Materials and Welding for the Classification of Marine Units. The July 2022 version is completely reorganized through 14 chapters, in comparison with the 2021 version, which had 6 chapters.
Main changes include the removal of flattening test or bend test and the addition of new items regarding pipe examination and approval of welding procedure for cladding.
A new section was added to Chapter 12 regarding approval of welding procedures for friction stir welding, which apply to procedures for butt joints in aluminium hull construction procedure.
The rules apply to ships for which contracts are signed on or after July 1st, 2022.
