China Classification Society (CCS) has published revised parts I and IV of the guidelines for implementation of statutory surveys for ships engaged on international voyages.
These modifications were published on 30 December 2023.
The modifications made in December 2023 to part I of the guidelines include revisions to various chapters of international conventions related to maritime safety and pollution prevention:
- SOLAS Convention (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea):
- Revision to Regulation II-1/3-8 concerning shipboard fittings and supporting hull structures associated with towing and mooring on conventional vessels.
- MARPOL Convention (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships):
- Update to the Technical Code on Control of Emission of Nitrogen Oxides from Marine Diesel Engines, specifically in Chapter 4, Paragraph 4.4.6.1.
- IGC Code (International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk):
- Amendments to various paragraphs related to the examination before and after the first loaded voyage, as outlined in the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquid Gases in Bulk (IGC Code), as amended by Resolution MSC.370(93).
The modifications in December 2023 to part IV of the guidelines encompass the following changes across different chapters:
- Chapter 1: IMO Non-Mandatory Documents:
- Unified interpretations of SOLAS Chapter II-2.
- Chapter 2: MSC Circulars:
- Updates and revisions to various circulars, including hazardous area classification, guidelines for design and approval of fire-fighting systems, standardized life-saving appliance evaluation and test report forms, unified interpretations of SOLAS regulations, lists of solid bulk cargoes, and guidelines for anchor handling winches, lifting appliances, and the safety of ships using LPG fuels.
- Chapter 3: MSC Resolutions:
- Amendments to the Code of Safety for Special Purpose Ships (1983 and 2008), Revised Recommendation on Testing of Life-Saving Appliances, and the issuance of the International Code of Safety for Diving Operations, 2023.
