The European Commission has amended the Machinery Directive (MD) 2006/42/EC which aims at the free market circulation of machinery within the European Economic Area and at the protection of workers and consumers using it.
In other words, the Directive has a dual aim of harmonising the health and safety requirements applicable to machinery on the basis of a high level of protection of health, while ensuring the free circulation of machinery on the EU market. The amended Machinery Directive does not introduce radical changes compared with the previous version. It clarifies and consolidates the provisions of the Directive with the aim of improving its practical application.
The Directive became effective on 13th of April 2022.
