The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published the revised Unified Requirements for Hull Surveys of Double Hull Oil Tankers.
This document (UR Z10.4 Rev18 CLN) was published on February 1st, 2023, and will enter into force on July 1st, 2024.
The requirements in this document apply to all self-propelled double-hull oil tankers, as well as to surveys of hull structure and piping systems in way of cargo tanks, pump rooms, cofferdams, pipe tunnels, void spaces within the cargo area, and all ballast tanks.
These requirements are additional to the classification requirements applicable to the remainder of the ship.
The requirements contain the minimum extent of examination, thickness measurements, and tank testing.
The survey is to be extended when Substantial Corrosion and/or structural defects are found and include an additional Close-up Survey when necessary.
