The Directorate General of Shipping, India has published Circular No. 21 of 2023 - Corrigendum for Ship Maneuvering Simulator and Bridge Teamwork Course.
In 2005, DGS Training Circular No. 6 set guidelines for Ship Maneuvering Simulator and Bridge Teamwork courses to standardize training quality and equipment across institutes. These guidelines were subsequently updated.
In 2018, DGS Training Circular No. 23 introduced guidelines for Basic Training in Polar Waters. Appendix - 4 of this circular specified the visual screen requirements for ship maneuvering simulators.
Following stakeholder requests, there is a proposal to replace projected visual screens with Flat Screen LED displays for Ship Maneuvering Simulator and Bridge Teamwork courses.
Recognizing technological advancements, the Directorate now permits the use of Flat Screen LED displays, with each panel measuring a minimum of 65" diagonally, in compliance with the existing requirements.
This circular was published on 15 September 2023.
