The Directorate General of Shipping, India has issued the Guidelines for Shore-Based Maintenance and Annual Testing of Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs).
This document has been published on November 7th, 2022.
The purpose of these Guidelines is to establish standardized procedures and minimum levels of service for the testing and maintenance of EPIRBs to ensure maximum reliability while minimizing the risk of false distress alerting.
Approved EPIRB service stations in India are required to comply with the revised guidelines and issue Shore based Maintenance Certificates and Annual Testing Certificates in line with revised MSC Circular nos. MSC.1/Circ.1039/Rev.1 and MSC.1/Circ.1040/Rev.2 dated l8 October 2021 respectively.
