Lloyd's Register has issued the Guidance Notes for Class and Statutory Approval and Use of Marine Biofuels.
This LR document, published on January 1st, 2023, provides guidance on the Class and Statutory requirements for use of liquid biofuels for marine and offshore installations, for use as direct replacements of, or as blends with, conventional petroleum-derived residual or distillate fuel oils.
Such biofuels mentioned above are considered "drop-in" biofuels.
These guidance notes do not apply to bio-derived gaseous fuels such as biomethane or liquid methyl/methyl alcohol which are listed in IMO Resolution MSC.391(95).
