The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published a document about the machinery requirements for polar class ships.
This revised Unified Requirements document (UR I3 Rev2 CR) was published on January 1st, 2023, and will enter into force on July 1st, 2024.
The content of this document refers to the main propulsion, steering gear, and emergency and auxiliary systems essential for the safety of the ship and crew.
The requirements from this document should be added to those that apply for the basic class of open-water vessels.
These revised Unified Requirements should be applied by IACS Societies on ships contracted for construction on or after July 1st, 2024.
