China Classification Society (CCS) has published revised guidelines for the design, installation, and operation of exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) on ships to reduce sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions.
The guidelines were published on 19 March 2024, and will take effect starting from 1 July 2024.
The document covers various aspects such as general requirements, system design, machinery equipment, control and monitoring systems, and operation procedures.
These guidelines are applicable to EGCS installed on ships to reduce SOx emissions from fuel oil combustion units (FOCUs).
Key points include ensuring compatibility with FOCUs, proper handling of washwater and residue, design considerations for EGC units and pressure vessels, and the need for robust control and safety systems.
Additionally, the document outlines procedures for approval, inspection, and survey of EGCS to ensure compliance and proper functioning.
