The Panama Canal Authority has issued an important advisory (No. A-28-2024, dated August 15, 2024) to all shipping agents, owners, and operators, outlining significant updates to the canal's operational protocols.
These changes are in response to current and projected water levels in Gatun Lake and are aimed at optimizing the transit process through the canal, particularly in the Neopanamax Locks.
Effective Immediately: The maximum authorized draft for vessels transiting the Neopanamax Locks has been increased to 15.24 meters (50.0 feet). This adjustment reflects the ACP's efforts to maintain optimal service levels as water conditions stabilize.
Changes to Transit Reservation System:
- From September 1, 2024, daily booking slots will increase to 36, with specific allocations for different vessel types.
- Modifications to slot allocations, including adjustments in booking periods and competitions, are detailed.
- Temporary measures and previous limitations have been revised.
For detailed information, inquiries, or further communication, stakeholders are directed to the Panama Canal website or specified contacts.
