China Classification Society (CCS) has issued Guidelines for Survey of Reducing Ship Power which entered into force on October 1st, 2022.
The Guidelines apply to ships engaged on international voyages which require reducing ship power to meet EEXI requirements.
Ship power limitation and power reduction modification should not affect ship safety and normal operation. In addition to satisfying the requirements of the Guidelines, ships also need to satisfy the CCS rules.
The technical requirements for ship power limitation are detailed in chapter 2 and it can be achieved by either engine power limitation or shaft power limitation, and power limitation includes two modes, i.e. overridable power limitation and non-overridable power limitation.
In chapter 3 ship power modification is specified with technical requirements for the engine, NOx emission control, shafting and propeller, shafting vibration and alignment, electrical and control system, and minimum propulsion power.
Requirements for the survey and certification are specified in chapter 4.
There is also an appendix in the document with the example of relevant requirements for different power limitation and/or power reduction modification.
