Classification Society RINA has amended Part A of the "Rules for the Classification of Ships" (REP.1) to include the new "Cyber Resilience Ready" (CS-Ready) class notation, effective June 1, 2024, and issued a new guide for shipyards to assign this notation to new buildings.
The guide introduces the "Cyber Resilience Ready" (CS-Ready) additional class notation, which is assigned to ships meeting specific cybersecurity requirements during construction. Based on the RINA Rules for the Classification of Ships, the CS-Ready notation involves cybersecurity reviews and surveys of operational technology (OT) and related information technology (IT) systems on ships and offshore units.
The guide outlines the general conditions and definitions related to RINA's Rules and Services and clarifies the responsibilities and obligations of all parties involved in ship construction and certification. It provides detailed requirements and procedures for obtaining the CS-Ready notation, including necessary documentation, surveys during and after construction, and partial compliance criteria. The CS-Ready notation is applicable to ships whose Shipbuilder Integrator (SBI) adheres to the guide's requirements.
The purpose of the CS-Ready notation is to ensure that cybersecurity procedures and protections are applied to critical OT/IT systems during ship construction and communicated to the owner, helping to meet specific requirements in the RINA Rules for the Classification of Ships.
